Private lessons and small classes are held in my home studio. I am also available for workshops in other venues.

Botanical Art in Watercolor
Learn the English watercolor technique for making beautifully detailed botanical studies. Some experience with watercolor is required. For adults.

Watercolor: a Holistic Approach
An integrative approach to watercolor painting based primarily on the book WATERCOLOR, A New Beginning: A Holistic Approach to Painting, by Ann K. Lindsay (Watson-Guptil 1998) This class is serious fun. It's about learning to paint by playing with watercolor, dancing with it, enjoying, exploring. At the same time, a strong foundation of essential principles and techniques is introduced. For beginners as well as more experienced artists.
For adults or children (age 10 and older).

Learning how to illuminate lettersIlluminated Letters
Participants choose a letter from a wide variety of decorative capitals from the Celtic, Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance, and later periods. You may want to simply copy an existing letter, or modify it in some way, or design your own.

The letter is traced or copied onto good quality hot press (smooth-finish) watercolor paper. It is then inked, painted with watercolor or gouache, and (when indicated) gilded.

Learn techniques for building up layers of color, for shading, applying opaque white for finishing touches, and for applying gold leaf. Gilding materials, including imitation gold leaf will be provided. (22K gold leaf is available for a small extra fee.) The end result will be a beautiful, frameable, illuminated initial.

Ukrainian Easter Eggs
The centuries-old tradition of decorating eggs with a wax resist process is alive and well using modern tools and richly colored analine dyes. Through successive applications of wax and dye, vivid multicolored designs are imparted to the egg. When wax is removed, the full beauty of the design emerges. For adults and older children (age 10 and older).
