On
the grounds of Jesus College, Cambridge England, its branches overhanging
an eight-foot-high wrought iron fence, grows this
"Strawberry Tree".
Though I dearly wanted a sprig of it to paint
(a) I couldn't reach it and (b) I couldn't justify stealing
it from Jesus College.
While
I stood looking wistfully upward, my companion, Su Roberts, the artist wife of the
Principal of Westcott House
School of Theology,
climbed up on the fence, grabbed a huge branch,
yanked it off and handed it to me with a smile.
